Spent two days at home before rushing up to Nandom and Lawra for a couple days to do some work, was a normal trip. The main events of the week were on the weekend which turned out to be quite a busy one.
Our regional meeting was on Saturday, basically just a catch up on any VSO policy changes and the like, I won’t bore you with the details. It had all the volunteers from the upper west, so it was also a chance to see everybody and find out how they are doing.
A few volunteers are finishing their placements over the next few weeks. Pete is finishing up and heading home on the 4th of April. Linda and H are leaving Wa on Sunday to travel for a week before they head home. Pete was always great fun and it was nice to have a guy to talk to sometimes as there are mostly female volunteers here, pity we didn’t get to hang out more. Linda and H have been great to have here in Wa and have always been there to pick me up, give me advice, feed me and make me laugh. I will miss them all terrible and they will leave a big hole in my life here.
So, after the meeting we spent the rest of the day in Countryside spot chatting, laughing and discussing the idiosyncrasies of the Ghanaian system. Was a nice afternoon, it’s sad that it will be the last as that group?
The next day the water ran so I had to get up early to fill all the barrels. The other Wa house (home to Linda, H, Greg and Joanne) has not had proper water for over two weeks. While putting in the wiring for some new street lights the workers accidentally punctured the water pipes to their area multiple times. With four people living in the house they do go through a lot of water and have been having to go to the local borehole, but so are everyone else in the area now as well. When H was there last there being 58 containers ahead of them. So, to help I filled containers at my house and took them to their house on my bike, did this a few times and they had a supply for a few days. We are all hopping it starts running again.
In the afternoon Linda, H, Joanne and I were invited my Mr Guri, who is the assistant director at our office, for a drink at Countryside spot. He gave us the news that he had been promoted to Director and was being move to the completed opposite side of the country, the Volta region, for his new role. He was leaving for Accra on Tuesday and will be moving within the next few weeks. I have had some were good discussions with him and he has always been a good source of information so it’s a really pity he is leaving, and moving so far away. He has been a good friend and will be missed by us all.
