Well St Patrick’s Day is over, and man was it crazy. The last couple days in Dublin have been very cool. We went and saw the Guinness Brewery and it was sweet, a huge building pumping out like 3.5 Million Pints of Guinness a day. I even got to start a new batch of Guinness, batch number 736 is mine and they are going to email me with where my Guinness goes all over the world. We had a free pint of Guinness at the bar at the very top of their plant; the skyline is a mostly industrial one so with the grey background it was all that pretty.
We have met so many people on our trip; we went on a pub crawl the first night in Dublin (check out the pictures) and meet some awesome people; such as Will a Brit who you can see dancing with Ali and some Americans over here for St Patrick’s as well. We meet Velia and Valentine some Italians studying in England for a bit. For St Patrick’s Day we meet a group of Canadians with a few Brits mixed in, and awesome fun group of people (Teri, Jeff, Emily, Helen, Gavin and Laurel). It is a small world though, there were so many Canadians and Americans in town for this festival, even one of our bar tenders was a guy from Vernon BC.
Things worked out for our accommodation, the three nights without accommodation were taken care of. The first night two girls cancelled in our hostel and we got their beds, Ali and I had to share one but at 25 Euros a bed it helped. The second night the group of Canadians I mentioned above had a private room with one spare bed, so we took that and slept on the floor as well. As for the third night (tonight) the hostel we had three beds available and, so we snatched them up and went right back to bed, because we needed to after the night we had. We slept till about 3pm, well Ali is still sleeping as I write this (around 5:30pm).
The St Patrick’s Day parade was crazy here, it was about 145 minutes long and consisted a variety of things, most of which we didn’t understand why there where there. There were no rainbows or leprechauns or other Irish symbols more a collection of marching bands, floats about dead fish or fish and a lot of crying brides. It was good for sure, but if you asked me to interpret it I would probably have to say it was the history of two warring fish people factions which I’m sure couldn’t be further from the truth.
Not sure what we will do next we have tomorrow night booked in a hostel in Dublin and then Ali leaves on Thursday. After that I think that Jeff and I will head off to some other cities in Ireland such as Galway or Cork. So far it has been a great trip here, but I am antsy to get out of Dublin and see some of the other places in Ireland and get over to Scotland.
